Writing files to cd windows xp
If you have other software like Roxio…. I highly recommend purchasing an External Hard drive: It could save you hours of frustration and make backups much easier than backing up to CDs. Click cancel if any popup windows open.
Go to the folder or file you wish to backup for example: if you want to backup your my documents folder, click start, then my documents select the files you need to back up. To select all files in this folder, click edit menu in the upper left side of your screen, click on select all.
To select only a few in a row, click once on the first file folder, the press and hold down the shift key and click on the last file folder in a row to select a all in between the files you clicked. Click File 6. Close all the windows and click on start, my computer, then click on the drive letter for your CD Writer. The Files will look faded…you should now be in the temporary CD writing file folder.
Now you should have files waiting to be written to the CD. Check the file size to be sure they will fit on the CD by clicking on edit, then select all, then click on file, properties. Pictured below.. If the writable cd folder closes and you have added files or folders to be written to cd a balloon will appear in the bottom right corner reminding you that files are ready to be written to cd. If you click on this balloon it will show the writable cd folder and the files you have ready.
If the balloon disappears and you want to see what files you are adding to a cd, simply open my computer and press on your cd drive there. Simply choose to write these files to cd in the left menu which is under the heading of CD writing tasks.
If your disk is not full, you can add more files to it at a later date. Shown in the picture below.. I have 3 folders on the cd that I had burnt to the cd about a month before, now I am adding a few more. The Copy Items dialog box opens. In My Computer, navigate to and double-click the CD recording drive. Windows displays a temporary area where the files are held before they are copied to the CD. The CD Writing Wizard opens. After the files have been copied, click Finish. The original files or folders will remain on your system.
When you are finished adding all the files and folders you want to burn into the writable folder, select Write these files to CD from the task bar on the left. A wizard will start up to guide you through the process of creating your CD.
