In the main story, does the New Game Plus option appear after the main storyline or after all the EX maps?

Kantolin 11 years ago 2. After the main story, a phantom will appear on your island giving you the option to new game plus at any point after that. Having the team disappear after several turns and need to be replaced is often a shock to any entrenched RPG player. There are many unusual features of this game which are not the norm for the RPG industry, but players who can move out of the usual expectation of RPG games will find a very impressive and unique game.

The numbers that can be thrown around, especially in item fusion, can seem daunting, but only need to be understood in concept to be used. The game is fairly accessible to new players but allows a great deal of depth of play and is open to development to allow players to select their preferred play style. Graphics — 8 The graphics are hand drawn sprites on rendered 3D maps.

The look and feel of the game is very colorful and nice to look at. It may pale in comparison to other genres, but is quite impressive compared to other Strategy RPGs. Audio — 9 As with most Nippon Ichi games, the music is beautiful and well placed. Voice acting is good, and also includes English or Japanese voices.

Sound effects are simple and appropriate. There may be room for improvement, but not much. Ingenuity — 9 As previously explained, this game has a fairly out-of-the-box approach to the genre. While it holds the usual Nippon Ichi flavor, it is not easily compared to other games they have made, or any other game in the genre, for that matter.

The core concept of the Strategy RPG is the same, but most other aspects of the game have been rethought and are unique. This is either one of the most impressive Strategy RPGs to be released in the last decade or one of the most bothersome, depending on what the player is expecting. Players looking for something new will not be disappointed. After the story is completed, there are plenty of features for anyone who enjoys playing though, to keep them busy for quite some time.

The game also features a touching story which is a little unusual for video games in general. Any player who loves customization and building teams will have a heyday. Compulsive collectors will be a little frustrated by the huge amount of character types and item types available.

The ability to make huge overpowering armies with almost limitless potential also appeals to a certain type of player. Any player who thinks these things may be appealing should at least give the game a look. My personal prefernce is Japanese, but surprisingly the English voice acting is pretty good when compared to the rest of the market. Tons of stuff to do and having your own little island that you can kind of customize with your "employees" is fun.

Definitely an excellent addition if you've enjoyed Disgaea and La Pucelle. Even if you're new to this game and genre, try it out, you'll be hooked.

Phantom Brave has a great battle system, nice visual style, and the story had a lot of potential. Unfortunately it's battle system, visuals, Phantom Brave has a great battle system, nice visual style, and the story had a lot of potential. Unfortunately it's battle system, visuals, and music are too similar to that of other better games and the story ends up being extremely weak.

If your new to strategy RPGs you'll have to put up with the steep learning curve pretty much every game in the genre has. Veteran players of games like Disgaea and Final Fantasy Tactics will likely be disappointed by it's poor story and it's close resemblance to other better NIS games. Big Disgaea fan, couldn't wait for this, but sorely disappointed. Imagine regular battles, but your characters vanish after 5 Ugh. Imagine regular battles, but your characters vanish after 5 turns.

Keep in mind it'll probably take you that long to walk across the map and suddenly the whole thing seems pointless. The story is atrocious, a mess of cutesy little-girl's-princessy-story nonsense and poor VA. It's as if aimed at 4 year olds. None of Disgaea's charm or humour, pointless battles as your army vanishes way before the real fight, and a story so bad it isn't worth continuing on.

The summoning of characters feels redundant, and the removal of the grid system makes it so everyone just makes a beeline for the enemy. The story is somewhat boring. I can't believe these are the same people who made the Disgaea series. If that's all you have, it means you have 4 turns to clear out the map before you have no more characters left to summon. To make up for this, you're again forced to make a lot of characters just to make sure you can keep summoning in more once they vanish.

Now for the next issue here. Instead of using a grid type movement system, they decided to throw out this half baked free movement system to players. It's not perfect and there are many flaws in it. Your characters can slip and slide or just fail to get over objects and waste their movement. Which forces you to cancel it and keep going. It takes awhile to get used to it, and it still has flaws in it.

I've had it where I told my character to attack a enemy and they would move away from the enemy and attack one of my own characters that happened to be in the way. Very annoying, and it happens a lot.

Overall: 5 or a 7 if you like the look of the graphics in battle and the free movement system While it may seem like I really hate the game, I don't. I just feel that it's better to list off the flaws of the game so a person knows what they're going to be getting. The graphics is just my opinion, some people like it, some don't.

I personally don't like them at all, it just looks ugly reference to the weapons. The free movement system is nice if they fix all the flaws out of it and continue to make it better. Like how Disgaea had a better grid system then La Pucelle.

I expect the next game to have a better free movement system if they plan to use it. I believe the game is worth picking up, but only if you're a fan of the other two games.
