Return of the king game boy advance
Despite the graphically more advanced titles on the consoles, the Game Boy renditions had a more complex RPG-leveling system that kept it from ever getting boring or old. With plenty of items to pick up and armor and weapons to change out, the possibilities were endless. There was enough challenge to keep gamers satisfied and enough content for hours upon hours of play. It also stayed reasonably accurate to the films, taking some creative license where it needed, but continued to build off the hype of the movies at the time of release.
This title makes the list because of the mechanics of the game and how it displays the technological advancement that was the Game Boy Advance. Playing much like the console titles of the Mario Kart franchise, the game only took an overall hit in graphics, but kept the same perspective behind the driver with fully fleshed out maps and interactive obstacles. There were various game modes and plenty of characters to choose from which guaranteed a solid gaming experience.
The ability to play against others was also an option. Taking a more isometric perspective rather than third-person, the game remained the same in terms of gameplay and goals.
Though it took some getting used to in some areas, there were no doubts that the game was graphically and mechanically advanced for its time. Mumakil will also enter the battlefield. The player must shoot the Witch-king until it flies off.
This process will repeat until the Witch-king's Fell Beast is slain. The level begins with the player facing the Mouth of Sauron who was brandishing Frodo's Mithril shirt. The player then battles to defeat him. After the player slays the Mouth, the progress is saved and the next part begins.
Hordes of orcs will erupt from the Black Gate of Mordor. The player must kill every enemy that makes it onto the slag ruins while protecting the rest of the Fellowship the other members regain health when you are next to them. The objective is to kill six champions, but the enemies will come from the sides as well as the front after three champions have been killed. Once all six champions are defeated, there is a checkpoint and three Ringwriaths appear.
The Ringwraiths will attempt to kill the player and the members of the Fellowship. The level ends when the three Ringwraiths are slain.
The player must make their way through the besieged city of Osgiliath and escape through the sewers. The player must fight their way through Osgiliath, and either take cover or get off the roofs as quickly as possible when the Ringwraiths are searching. The level ends when the player defeats the orc champion stationed near the exit of the sewers, and escapes the city.
The first part: The first part is a gigantic maze, with few paths actually leading to the correct location. Though some paths will lead to EXP bonus stones, they also contain spider ambushes. A couple of Orcs also dwell in the lair.
The player's basic objective, in this stage, is to make it to a huge arched bridge, where a checkpoint will signal the end. The second part: The second part is more straightforward, but harder; there is only one path from this point on, but there are more enemies and more baby spider blockades that need to be separated by a torch. The objective, which is even simpler than the last, is to get out of the lair into a huge rock arena. The third part: The player must now fight Shelob.
She begins with parry-able thrusts, but will occasionally charge into a corner and summon spiders to attack the player. The only way is to hack at Shelob until she is defeated. Frodo will be taken by two orcs, which ends the level.
The player must fight through many hordes of orcs, who are at war with each other though will focus attention on the player when they spot him Note: The enemies seem to not actually kill each other, so it is up to the player to do so if they wish to. The first part of the mission involves killing at least 80 enemies, which can be accomplished through a variety of paths and action sequences.
Once this is done, the player must navigate the level until a short scene showing the remaining orcs fleeing to a bridge is shown. Similar to the previous year's The Two Towers, gameplay in this Griptonite Games portable version of the Electronic Arts Lord of the Rings title is reminiscent of the classic home computer game Diablo. From an isometric perspective, players guide their chosen hero through locations based on those of the New Line Cinema feature film, battling foes and collecting gold and equipment in real-time.
A character's power is measured by hit point life and spirit energy mana , and a paper-doll interface allows players to equip their heroes with the items they find or purchase. Two additional, hidden characters may also become available as the game is played and its challenges met. While Return of the King players are not immediately rewarded with full-motion movie clips, as in Griptonite's Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, in-game graphics have been improved slightly in this second title and feature new lighting and reflection effects.
Two GBA players can battle one another, through a link cable connection, and this game also offers special features when connected to the GameCube version of the title.
